The 2021 harvest kicked off with a bang in the early morning hours of Wednesday 25 February.
The fire, which raged at the same time in the mountains surrounding Stellenbosch, created a slightly eerie backdrop as the sun peeked out from behind the Simonsberg mountain.
This is the latest we have ever harvested our grapes for the Beeslaar Pinotage – a direct result of abnormal, cool vintage conditions during the growth- and ripening phase.
We were fortunate enough to harvest our grapes just in time to avoid any possible smoke taint, and although it was a very strange growing season with regards to the cool temperatures, I’m very excited about the quality prospects for the wines we will be making this year!
