New Beginnings for Beeslaar Wines

Dec 5, 2024

It’s hard to believe it’s only been a month since departing Kanonkop, but what an eventful month it has been. As many of you know, this milestone year saw me step away from my role as cellar master at Kanonkop Estate to dedicate myself fully to our brand. Alongside my wife Jeanne, I am embracing this exciting new chapter, brimming with passion and enthusiasm for the road ahead.

The 2023 Chardonnay is now in the market, we’ve bottled and labeled the 2023 Pinotage, and we’re preparing to release our first Bordeaux blend, The Sacrament.

While we’ve been busy in the cellar, the vineyards have been equally active. Flowering took place under challenging conditions but still resulted in a promising set. With suckering complete, the canopies are open and primed for the next phase – veraison.

As we look ahead to 2025, we’re excited to establish our “new” rhythm and look forward to connecting with even more of you throughout the year.

New Release – Beeslaar Chardonnay 2023

We are deligthed to share that the Beeslaar Chardonnay 2023 is now available!

It is rated 4.5* (94 points) in the 2025 edition of the Platter’s Guide.

“Exceptionally pure expression of the grape. Crunchy green apple, ripe stonefruit & lively citrus, subtle minerality on the aftertaste. Impeccably balanced, with a long & refreshing conclusion.” – Winnie Bowman, Platter taster

This highly anticipated release is offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so don’t miss your chance to secure a bottle.

New Release – Beeslaar Pinotage 2022

The Beeslaar Pinotage continues to make waves, and this past year the 2022 vintage earned a place among the prestigious ABSA Top 10 Pinotage Awards and received 4.5 stars in the 2025 edition of the Platter’s Guide. Esteemed wine critic Tim Atkin MW further recognized its excellence with an outstanding 96-point score.

These accolades affirm our commitment to crafting Pinotage that embodies elegance, complexity, and the finest expression of the Cape’s terroir.

“Complete, impressive & ageworthy 2022. Sumptuous, rounded, with layers of dark plum, cherry & dried herbs, rich vanilla & molten chocolate enveloped in satin tannin & perfectly judged oak.” – Winnie Bowman, Platter taster

Harvest Prediction for 2025

The 2025 harvest is shaping up to be very promising. Although winter arrived a bit later than usual, we received sufficient rain. Cool, wet, and windy conditions during flowering impacted fruit set, which may result in smaller-than-usual crops for varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon and Chenin Blanc.

The wet conditions brought higher-than-average mildew pressure, but thanks to diligent vineyard management and protection, the vines remained largely unaffected.

We are optimistic for mild weather in December and January, which would support slower, more even ripening.
